This begins a series of posts to delve deeper into the mission, vision and value statements at Manning Up. This post will cover our mission statement “Our mission is to equip men in manning up and becoming the best men possible through any means necessary.” This represents our goal and purpose as an organization. Now to break it down to help explain what it all means.

Firstly, this is our mission. Much like within the military, the mission defines our objective, or what we are working towards. Whatever we do as an organization needs to line up with this goal or else we don’t want to invest time and resources into doing it. There will always be plenty of distractions but the only way to achieve the objective is to identify it, clearly understand what it is and then focus in on accomplishing it.

Secondly, to equip is meaning to provide you with the tools and resources necessary to grow. We obviously can’t live your lives for you, or even always speak to specific situations you’re going through, but our goal is to provide you with helpful advice, tips and other resources that you can apply to whatever you are going through.

Next, manning up refers to developing the character traits we have identified as being key to reaching your full potential as men such as keeping your word, fulfilling your duties, being generous, treating others with honour and respect, and not backing down from a worthy challenge (for more detail, check out this article). This is not a complete list but some crucial aspects of growing as a man.

Finally, through any means necessary may sound a little extreme but this mission is crucial and never easy. It’s going to require difficult work, sacrifice and tough choices. Real growth requires change, which doesn’t happen naturally. Sometimes it might feel impossible or too difficult to achieve but the challenge is worth it.
